As a child, Sam Fisher emigrated from Russia and settled in St. Paul, Minnesota with his parents. Sam joined the army when WWI began, and because of his ability to speak several European languages, he was assigned as an interpreter in France. During his time in France, Sam was fascinated when he noticed peasant farmers salting in-shell peanuts in their farmyards.

After the war, Sam and his wife started experimenting in their own kitchen to figure out a way to salt peanuts in the shell. Sam and his wife developed a method and began selling Fisher® Salted In-Shell Peanuts in St. Paul, MN.
